CPTAV has collated a rich but by no means complete selection of indigenous education resources for Victorian teachers and students.
Metropolitan Melbourne site visits may include:
The Crime and Justice Experience
Auspiced by the National Trust of Victoria, within the Old Melbourne Magistrates Court, students are challenged to explore the often-confronting complexities of law and justice in past and present Australian communities.
In a Koorie Court set, students participate in a simulation of an actual Koorie Court courtroom drama - “You will be tried by your elders”. Working from scripts based on a recent trial (and with the permission of all those who were involved), students experience the powerful complexities of a justice system, established as it was by white men, but adapted to be culturally and ethically appropriate for indigenous Australians. Ricky’s case explores many issues which are both provocative and confronting.

Indigenous Galleries of The Ian Potter Centre, National Gallery of Victoria at Federation Square
The art of Indigenous Australia comes from the world’s longest continuing art tradition. Located in country of the Kulin nation, the NGV’s Indigenous Galleries acknowledge the power, dominance and cultural diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and represent some of its major historical and contemporary moments.
The galleries encompass works across a range of media by both male and female artists and celebrate contemporary innovation. The works displayed challenge preconceived notions of what constitutes ‘authentic’ or ‘traditional’ Indigenous art. The displays change regularly to feature different aspects of the NGV’s rich collection that represents most of the art producing communities across Australia.
