Home Economics Victoria is a membership-based health promotion charity in the form of a Public Company Limited by Guarantee. Our purpose is to promote skills for life to achieve optimal and sustainable wellbeing for individuals, families and communities. We believe this is achievable by engaging and educating people in a variety of home economics contexts such as food, nutrition and health; consumerism and resource management; human development and family studies.
Since 1958 our organisation has supported educators in empowering people to live sustainably and take responsibility for their own physical, mental and social wellbeing. Our role has broadened as we work in partnership with industry, governments and community sector organisations.
Our activities are guided by our objectives:
  • Promote skills for life including home economics to achieve optimal and sustainable wellbeing for individuals, families and communities;
  • Promote health and wellbeing aimed at preventing diseases, specifically obesity and Type 2 diabetes;
  • Provide education and information about health and wellbeing through education programs, resources, publications, advocacy and consultancy;
  • Support research into health and wellbeing including the provision of awards and scholarships;
  • Work in partnership with relevant health and education bodies, government departments, organisations and industry.
